About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Team Lead – Personnel Security, the Security Advisor - Personnel Security will ensure the effective and compliant operation, implementation, administration, rectification, coordination and management of all processes, systems and measures concerning personnel security for ASC’s main and satellite sites within the incumbent's geographical state of operation.

This includes supporting the wider Security team including but not limited to the security for all classified materials IAW the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF), the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) membership, and the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA). In particular, you will oversee the adherence by ASC to all ASC Security policies and procedures in conjunction with the Team Lead. The position will also require liaising with the Defence Security & Vetting Service, NSSG Security Officer Collins Submarine Program, ASIO and other external agencies when required.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the security risk context within the Defence environment to provide advice on protective security matters.
  • Provide guidance in all instances of security threats to the business from Trusted Insiders, Foreign Intelligence Services, Criminal elements, Maverick Individuals, Issue Motivated Groups
  • Prepare and present security training and awareness sessions, with the ability to contextualise, to internal and external stakeholders to support the protective security needs of the Business.
  • Develop reports, policies, procedures, and practices in coherence with ASC and Commonwealth security requirements.
  • Proficient in the use of tools to assist the day-to-day operations which include but not limited to the use of the JIRA Security Service Desk and Confluence.
  • Provide day to day assistance to internal functions relating to general and specialised security matters.
  • Maintain security governance in accordance with the DSPF with specific emphasis on incident management and resolution.
  • Provide specialist personnel security services in relation to clearances, travel, release approvals, citizenship waivers and international management of clearance recognition in support of business activities.
  • Strong understanding and ability to create complex Defence security risk assessments and the understanding and enforcement of the risk acceptance threshold levels for each control within the DSPF

About you 

  • Qualification in Security and/or Risk Management or related field
  • Security disciplines and their practical application to Defence
  • Proven background in a similar role with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Experience and knowledge in compliance, assurance, and governance frameworks
  • In-depth knowledge of Physical, Personnel, Governance, and Information security in relation to DISP and/or Defence
  • Instructional Technique or Facilitation experience
  • Ability to identify, control and manage risk and security threats
  • Shaping and influencing change within an organisation

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
