About the Opportunity

The Senior WHSE Advisor is responsible for supporting the execution of industry-leading WHSE frameworks, systems, risk reduction activities and processes to support delivery of the overall WHSE strategy.

Ensure that the ASC International Entities (ASC IEs) in the UK and US WHSE management systems are aligned to ASC’s WHSE management system, including reporting to and supporting the WHSE Manager as the WHSE point of contact that maintains ongoing WHSE risk management communication between ASC Australia, the Commonwealth, and US Pearl Harbor Shipyard (PHNSY).

PLEASE NOTE: This role will require you to travel regularly to Pearl Harbour for up to 3 months at a time with a potential to relocate fulltime for up to 4 years. Further discussions will be held with candidates at phone screen time.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as a senior advisor, coach and facilitator this role will support collaboration with the broader WHSE function and help build WHSE coaching capability and capacity within the team
  • Support and contribute to a positive people culture that values continuous improvement and develop new processes and procedures in line with the Company's focus on 'Lean' thinking
  • Supporting ASC Australia WHSE team with development of WHSE management system documentation and tools, including:
    • Supporting the implementation of the WHSE Strategic Activity Plan 2024 – 2027
    • Amending and creating new WHSE processes, documents, and tools
    • Facilitating stakeholder engagement and consultation with the workforce
  • Ensures that the ASC International Entities (ASC IEs) in the UK and US WHSE management systems are aligned to ASC’s WHSE management system, including:
    • Reporting to and supporting the WHSE Manager as the WHSE point of contact that maintains ongoing WHSE risk management communication between ASC Australia, the Commonwealth, and US PHNSY,
    • Ensuring effective overseas travel risk management,
    • Evaluating PHNSY WHSE management system in relation to ASC Australia,
    • Leading in-locality site safety assessments, that are completed for ASC deployed workers with ASC, Commonwealth and PHNSY,
    • Driving the identification, analysis and treatment of WHSE gaps between PHNSY and Australia,
    • Managing ongoing pre-deployment WHSE briefings and in-locality safety inductions,
    • Monitoring deployed Australian ASC workers at PHNSY with the Commonwealth and PHNSY, and collating and utilising post-deployment feedback from returned ASC workers.
  • Ensuring consultation, cooperation and coordination between ASC WHSE, ASC’s departments, ASC production, external contractors, and ASC IEs.

Qualifications required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in workplace health and safety management, environmental science, engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 5-6 years of experience, 3 of which in a senior advisory or systems role
  • Superior comprehension of Work Health and Safety and Environment Legislation and application of relevant standards
  • Previous exposure to OSHA legislation (US)
  • Working knowledge of High Risk Activities
  • Working knowledge of environmental requirements and controls
  • Exposure to incident investigation methodologies (such as ICAM)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (particularly MS Project and MS Excel)

Desirable Criteria

  • Working at Height certification
  • Confined Space certification
  • High Risk certification 
  • Lead Auditor qualification

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
