About the Opportunity

This is a key opportunity to join ASC’s WHSE team in a senior operational role primarily based on Garden Island, with support at Henderson as required. As the Senior WHSE Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting the execution of industry leading WHSE frameworks, systems, and risk reduction activities. You will act as a coach, advisor, and facilitator, working closely with stakeholders across the business to embed a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with ASC’s WHSE Management System and relevant legislation.

This role is primarily based at Garden Island, with occasional work at Henderson, Western Australia. Please note that this location requirement is mandatory and cannot be adjusted. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert WHSE advice and support to operational teams, including risk assessments, safe operating procedures, and high-risk activity reviews.
  • Facilitate incident investigations using best-practice methodologies and support regulatory reporting processes.
  • Coach and mentor stakeholders in assurance activities, inspections, and audits to ensure adherence to ASC’s safety management system.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and support WHSE consultation and communication with Royal Australian Navy personnel.
  • Participate in and support WHSE continuous improvement initiatives and cultural change programs.
  • Assist in the implementation of WHSE strategies and frameworks aligned with ASC’s proactive operating model.
  • Support the management of hazardous chemicals and high-risk activities in a defence or heavy industry environment.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in workplace health and safety.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a WHSE operational delivery role.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS and environmental legislation and standards.
  • Working knowledge of high risk activities and hazardous chemical management.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and significant experience in report writing.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and solution-focused with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High level of integrity, resilience, and the ability to influence positive outcomes.

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • Experience in incident investigation methodologies (ICAM).
  • Experience in defence or defence-adjacent construction environments.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
