About the Opportunity 

We are seeking a Specialist Electrical Engineer to join our Maintenance Engineering team, which is responsible for Collins Class Submarine maintenance in SA and WA. Reporting to the Lead of the Main Power/Propulsion team, you will undertake professional engineering tasks of a complex, interdisciplinary and technically challenging nature, including taking responsibility for the technical adequacy and safety of design products.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Act as the primary engineering interface to the submarine production team, to provide timely engineering advice, interpret technical requirements, resolve non‑conformances and manage configuration to ensure safe and efficient execution of maintenance and repair activities
  • Maintain and exercise appropriate engineering delegations, performing technical reviews and approvals in accordance with organisational policies, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Mentor staff to develop their skills and knowledge and ensure agreed plans and commitments are achieved
  • Manage assigned tasks, ensuring adherence to schedule and quality of engineering output, contribute to continuous improvement of corporate processes
  • Provide support and guidance to ensure technical issues are identified and resolved to the satisfaction of all internal and external stakeholders

 

About you 

  • Engineering Degree qualification or higher in related field, such as Electrical, Mechatronic Engineering and either be a current member or be eligible for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia (CPEng or Fellow will be highly regarded). 
  • Significant experience working with electrical systems in a submarine, defence, marine or industrial environment.
  • Experience with electric propulsion is desirable and experience with large DC motors would also be considered.
  • Experience with the design and maintenance of storage batteries, power conversion, electrical distribution switchboards & control panels, cabling & connectors, lighting, motors, generators, sensors, control systems, industrial networks, PLCs, VSDs, EMC/EMI, fire detection and/or gas detection.
  • An understanding of defence systems engineering standards and preferably Defence Seaworthiness, familiarity with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools and procedures and experience in the resolution of technical problems in a complex design, manufacturing and construction environment.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of products, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

Eligibility 

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
