About the Opportunity

System Specialists apply submarine and systems knowledge in the provision of front-line technical support of maintenance activities and deployed operational platforms. As a member of the Frontline Technical Support (FLTS) team at ASC North you will play a pivotal role in supporting submarine sustainment operations through rapid technical resolution, supervision, training and continuous improvement. The role will involve providing production expertise to various departments and programs as required.

 

Responsibilities

The system specialist FLTS role operates within the production environment working closely with boat teams, team leads and trades with a primary function to deliver a dedicated production stoppage resolution and technical support service. The purpose is to significantly reduce response time to solutions along with administrative and technical burden on Production Team Leads enabling uninterrupted supervision of the production workforce while issues are resolved concurrently. As part of the role the system specialist uses various ASC processes such as engineering delegations, red pen amendments and growth work while also engaging the broader business including engineering, projects, planning and quality departments to provide timely solutions that are fit for purpose first time.


Secondary functions include:

  • Supervision support to production management, offering flexibility to execute work across multiple shifts.
  • Deploying in support of OPM activities to provide supervision and technical support.
  • Support for training including mentoring, on the job, development, delivery and assessment.

 

Further responsibilities include the maintenance and updating of Set to Work (STW) documentation, as well as offering technical and practical guidance for the revision of maintenance documents.

During the performance of their duties a system specialist is responsible for identifying and analysing the root causes of stoppages and inefficiencies, and for initiating improvements to optimise ASC performance.

 

About you 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of appropriate trade and/or engineering qualifications.
  • Production skills assessed to a high level i.a.w. the production skills competency process or suitable demonstrable experience supporting production work.
  • Engineering delegation authority or demonstratable experience to allow it to be obtained.
  • Department of Defence security clearance to Negative Vetting Level 1 (minimum).

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in the supervision of labour employed on submarine maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Experience in the maintenance of Collins Class systems/equipment.
  • Experience with operations processes including safety, subsafe, CMS, work packs, materials and OQE.
  • Experience with conduct of STW activities including planning, execution, fault finding and submission of compliant documentation.
  • Experience with ASC IT systems and software.
  • Competence in the application of the Occupational Safety and Health legislative requirements.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
