Technical Writer – Nuclear

Location: Henderson, WA
ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines and continue to sustain and upgrade the fleet. As we support Australia’s transition to nuclear‑powered submarines, we are expanding our team and offering unique career pathways within one of the nation’s most significant and technically advanced industries.

This is a rare opportunity for a capable and motivated Technical Writer to help shape documentation that directly supports Australia’s future sovereign submarine capability. Based at our Henderson site, you’ll join a collaborative and supportive environment where your work contributes to national security.

About the Opportunity

As a Technical Writer – Nuclear, you will develop, update and manage high‑quality technical documentation relating to nuclear and radiological processes. Working closely with subject matter experts, you will translate complex technical and regulatory information into clear, compliant, Australian‑specific documentation.

This role is well‑suited to someone with strong writing capability, exceptional attention to detail and a passion for working in highly regulated environments. You do not need previous nuclear industry experience, just the ability to learn, collaborate and produce technically accurate documentation.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Creating and editing technical documents, processes, work instructions and arrangements.
  • Interpreting regulatory frameworks (Nuclear, WHS, Environmental) and ensuring documentation aligns with Australian requirements.
  • Gathering information from multiple stakeholders and consolidating into consistent, well‑structured documents.
  • Managing version control, formatting and document quality to maintain program‑wide consistency.
  • Coordinating approval workflows to ensure documentation is reviewed, updated and finalised efficiently.

About You

You will bring:

  • Prior experience developing technical documentation within complex or highly regulated environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Confidence working with diverse stakeholders, including engineers and regulatory specialists.
  • Strong time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A proactive, safety‑focused mindset and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel at intermediate to advanced level).

Why ASC?

Working at ASC means contributing to something bigger—a deeper purpose creating and sustaining Australia’s submarine capability.

You’ll also enjoy a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Flexibility over how, when and where you work.
  • Up to 10 days of additional leave each year.
  • Generous parental leave and subsidised childcare.
  • Health and wellbeing programs to help you perform at your best.
  • Professional development and unique career‑growth opportunities in a nationally significant industry.
  • Discounts and exclusive offers from leading Australian brands.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance (Baseline).
