About the Opportunity

As a Technology Controls Specialist, you will be a subject matter expert guiding export controls and controlled technology compliance across the business. Partnering with stakeholders across projects, engineering, supply chain, human resources, and legal, you will enable strategic outcomes while ensuring compliance with complex regulatory frameworks. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will protect the organisation while supporting major national security programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise, advice and guidance to all areas of the business of export control operational and regulatory requirements. 
  • Support the assessment and classification of goods, technical data, software, and services against the Australian Defence and Strategic Goods List (DSGL), Excluded Technology List (ETL), and relevant foreign regimes (e.g. ITAR, EAR).  
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.  
  • Identify licensing requirements and associated risks for the program and taking appropriate action to support the timely achievement of business goals. 
  • Manage export and import authorisations and licences, including applications, amendments, provisos/conditions reviews and implementation, renewals, record keeping and close-out activities. 
  • Develop and maintain Technology Control Plans and access control frameworks.  
  • Embed export control requirements and best practices into projects, contracts, procurement, collaborations, and day-to-day operations.  
  • Lead compliance assurance activities including audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.  
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and engage with regulators and external partners. 

About you 

  • Proven experience in export controls, compliance, legal, supply chain, or a highly regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of export control regulations (e.g. ITAR) and controlled technology requirements.
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation and translate into practical business solutions.
  • Experience with licensing, compliance frameworks, audits, and risk management processes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to produce reports, briefings, and training materials.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement, and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
