An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.  

Placements are available in August 2026 and will be a duration of 29-months.

 

Responsibilities 

In the role of a Test Engineer, your responsibilities are:

  • Plan, develop, and coordinate end-to-end testing and work control programs for overhaul, repair, or modernization processes
  • Formulate and manage test schedules, ensuring alignment with safety and operational requirements
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and performance input while interpreting and applying shipyard and NAVSEA technical standards
  • Prepare and evaluate detailed technical and test procedures to NAVSEA specifications for HM&E and Combat Systems
  • Monitor daily testing progress, track performance against plan, and advise leadership on risks, issues, and corrective actions

 

Eligibility Criteria 

The successful applicant must possess:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (essential)
  • 2-5 years of post-graduate experience
  • Experience in integrated ship systems (desirable)
  • Ability to complete 29 months training in Hawaii, followed by permanent relocation to Perth, WA
  • Australian Citizenship  
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance  

 

Additional Details 

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.  

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.  

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
