About the Opportunity

As a key member of the WHSE team, you will support the WHSE Lead SA and work closely with WHSE Advisors and the broader WHSE Multi Class Sustainment (MCS) / Life of Type Extension (LOTE) team. Your work will align with WHSE strategic objectives, legislation, and standards, contributing to the effective implementation of the WHSE Management System.

This role involves engaging with stakeholders to identify risks, opportunities, and improvements, while managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment. You’ll also provide flexible support across a wide range of WHSE tasks to help drive positive safety and business outcomes.

The Collins Class submarine fleet’s Life of Type Extension (LOTE) will provide the nation with submarine capability into the 2030’s. The Collins boats are internationally regarded among the best conventional submarines in the world. The project is currently in the detailed design phase and ASC is working closely with its stakeholders to deliver the Navy’s specific requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct WHS investigations to support compliance with WHSE legislation and national/international standards within the WHS Management System and Framework.
  • Assist the WHSE Lead SA in ensuring investigation outcomes align with ASC and WHSE strategies and are implemented according to the agreed strategic approach.
  • Capture and integrate lessons learned into the WHSEMS to prevent recurrence of incidents.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure timely investigations, regular updates, and effective implementation of recommendations across all workforce levels.

About You 

  • Demonstrated experience and superior comprehension in the application and implementation of Work Health and Safety and Environment Legislation and relevant standards.
  • Experience in undertaking complex WHS investigations, and various investigative methodologies, in a technical and high-risk operational environment.
  • Demonstrated Lead Investigator experience in Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM).
  • Skilled and knowledgeable in the design, development, and implementation of Work Health Safety and Environment Safety Management Systems, and systems thinking.
  • Extensive experience in working and engaging with stakeholders across all levels of an organisation to negotiate, promote, inform and resolve strategic WHSE matters.
  • Experience in change management specific to work health safety and environment in a large complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities within tight deadlines.
  • Experience in data analysis, generating reports, working with digital software platforms and databases.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in workplace health and safety management, environmental science, engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 3-4 years of experience

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
