To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled Calibration Technicians – Mechanical to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.
Placements are available in September 2026, and will be approximately 16-months in duration
Responsibilities
As a Calibration Technician – Mechanical, you will:
Perform accurate calibration, fault finding, and repair of mechanical, physical, and electro mechanical test and measurement equipment
Calibrate tools and instrumentation supporting nuclear reactor, steam plant, hydraulic, and auxiliary ship systems, both onboard and within laboratory environments
Use computerised calibration systems to maintain records, generate calibration reports, and ensure compliance with NAVSEA and applicable technical specifications
Maintain traceability of all calibration standards in accordance with NIST requirements
Identify out‑of‑tolerance (OOT) conditions, analyse root causes, and support verification and conformance activities for shipyard production and Quality Assurance teams
Eligibility Criteria
The successful applicant must possess:
Sound understanding of mechanical principles, including pressure measurement and physical/dimensional metrology
Demonstrated experience using precision measuring and calibration equipment such as torque testers, deadweight testers, callipers, and micrometres
Experience in maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification activities within naval or similarly complex environments
Trade qualification or equivalent experience in a fabrication or mechanical trade background
Australian Citizenship
An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance
Additional Details
During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.
At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.
Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
