ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s conventionally armed, nuclear‑powered submarines, the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work matters. What you do at ASC directly contributes to Australia’s national security. We offer ambitious roles, real career growth, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, with a deeper purpose you can genuinely stand behind.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the General Manager – Capability Execution, the Head of Capability Pool and Meaningful Work will oversee a team that has been established to provide a structured and scalable program that converts workforce supply into deployable capability. This is achieved through a defined lifecycle of capability assessment, meaningful work allocation, capability development, and the transition to destination roles.

This role will initially lead a team of two direct reports and nine indirect reports and is anticipated to grow over time. The position can be based in either Adelaide or Perth.

  • Oversee workforce allocation and utilisation, ensuring personnel are effectively deployed on meaningful work
  • Drive the sourcing and development of meaningful work opportunities, including external partnerships and secondments
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across Programs, Capability Leads, Supply Chain and external partners to support capability uplift
  • Establish and monitor system-level performance measures to ensure the effectiveness of the Capability Pool model
  • Contribute to organisational readiness as ASC transitions to nuclear capability through targeted workforce development initiatives

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience leading early careers or large workforce development programs in complex organisations.
  • Exceptional stakeholder partner across technical, operational, and corporate groups.
  • Advanced leadership ability, with experience building capable, engaged teams.
  • Proven ability to think long term while delivering superior operational outcomes.
  • A practical, outcomes‑focused approach, with a passion for developing future talent.
  • Extensive experience in leadership roles across operations, engineering, project or capability management
  • Strong understanding of defence, shipbuilding or highly regulated industries
