ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for multiple Software Engineering opportunities to support the delivery of complex, high-impact engineering programs across our organisation. These roles will contribute to capability development, sustainment, and future-focused initiatives within a collaborative and growing engineering function.

This campaign brings together exciting opportunities across our Software Engineering team, offering the chance to work across the full engineering lifecycle—from design and analysis through to implementation and continuous improvement. You will be considered for current vacancies, as well as upcoming roles expected to commence in the near future.

Across both levels, you will engage in activities such as system and component design, engineering analysis and modelling, preparation and review of technical documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.

This is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in South Australia or our Henderson site in Western Australia.

We are currently hiring:

  • Software Engineers – SA & WA
  • Senior Software Engineer - SA

Responsibilities

Software Engineer level:

  • Deliver engineering outcomes across design, analysis, documentation, and implementation, meeting agreed cost, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Contribute to subsystem and component design, analysis, and modelling using established tools, standards, and processes.
  • Prepare and support the review of technical documentation and engineering artefacts.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and support engagement with customers, suppliers, and procurement teams.
  • Assist in planning and managing assigned tasks and resources in line with project schedules.

Senior Software Engineer level:

  • Lead complex engineering activities, including large multi-disciplinary projects and system design or redesign.
  • Provide technical direction, set priorities, and mentor team members to achieve project outcomes.
  • Proactively identify and resolve technical and delivery challenges, implementing strategies to maintain schedule and budget.
  • Manage resources across labour, materials, and subcontractors, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Review and approve engineering outputs, ensuring compliance with standards, regulatory frameworks, and organisational processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement, applying systems engineering methodologies and contributing to process development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influencing successful delivery.

About you

  • A four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) that enables membership with Engineers Australia (or a comparable professional body), with a commitment to ongoing professional development and progression toward, or attainment of, Chartered status for more senior applicants.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and contribute within a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, delivering high-quality outcomes with strong organisation and attention to detail.
  • Experience or exposure to systems engineering practices, including requirements through to verification and configuration management.
  • Understanding of project management fundamentals, including scope, schedule, cost, and risk management.
  • Ability to work independently to solve problems and, at senior levels, lead teams, set priorities, and manage complex project activities.
  • Eligible for Defence security clearance and able to work within regulated environments and frameworks, with an understanding of relevant compliance and engineering standards.

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
