ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

ASC is seeking an Industrial Capability Development (ICD) Specialist to support the delivery of Australia’s sovereign industrial objectives within the SSN AUKUS Build Program.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy, industry engagement, supply chain development, and program delivery. It requires a commercial and analytical mindset, with an understanding of Australian Industry Capability (AIC) policies, strategies and frameworks. A key focus area will be unlocking Australian industry participation, as well as meeting contractual obligations.

Working closely with internal program teams, engineering partners (ASC and UK), and external suppliers, you will help identify capability gaps, develop supplier uplift opportunities, and contribute to long‑term industrial outcomes critical to Australia’s submarine enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Provide key input and support into Industry Capability Development (ICD) and Australian Industry Capability (AIC) activities across the SSN AUKUS program.
  • Apply your skillset within Industry Capability Development, balancing policy, commercial realities, and program needs.
  • Identify supplier capability gaps and development opportunities to increase Australian industry participation.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering teams, Supply Chain, Commercial, and external suppliers.
  • Support industry engagement activities and contribute to ICD related initiatives and reporting.
  • Analyse supplier and industry data to inform decision making, uplift strategies, and program reporting.
  • Support preparation of clear, concise, and well‑structured business documentation, including briefings, reports, and stakeholder communications
  • Contribute to governance, risk management, and performance reporting related to industrial capability outcomes

About you

You bring commercial awareness and are comfortable contributing to strategic thinking within complex, multi-stakeholder environments. You have an understanding that successful industrial capability development requires influence, collaboration, and data‑driven insights-beyond compliance alone.

You will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Supply Chain, Economics, Project Management or a related field.
  • Experience within the Industry Capability Development (ICD) and/or Australian Industry Capability (AIC) space.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Project Management, Supply Chain, Industry Development, Engineering or related field.
  • Experience working within complex stakeholder environments, including government, primes, and SMEs.
  • Experience contributing to reporting, data analysis, project management or program governance activities.
  • Strong business writing skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, audience‑appropriate written outputs.
  • Strong ability to engage with technical and non‑technical stakeholders alike.
  • Well-developed analytical skills with experience using MS Excel and Power BI for reporting and insights.
  • Exposure to defence, infrastructure, or large‑scale, regulated programs (desirable but not essential).

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.

To check your eligibility please visit the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website.
