About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Operations Specialist to join our SSN AUKUS Build Readiness Team.

Reporting to the Head of Production SSN AUKUS, the Operations Specialist will bring their extensive operations experience to the Build Program by leading the development of the operational, production and capability requirements for the Submarine Construction Yard and for the SSN AUKUS Operations Function.  

The successful candidate will support and lead the delivery of fabrication, outfitting, integration, consolidation and commissioning activities for the establishment of the AUKUS Build. They will also lead the development of the total production capability which includes the input to the operations of the shipyard build system (infrastructure, equipment, resources, ICT and BMS toolsets) in the manufacture of an SSN.

The Operations Specialist will be accountable for establishing robust relationships with the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA), the Joint Partner, and other capability partners required to support the execution of work scopes and will contribute to aligning activities with ASC’s Strategy and assisting ASC to meet any relevant contractual deliverables.

About You 

  • Minimum 15 years' work experience gained in a submarine or naval ship construction / build environment, managing the execution of operational activities.
  • Demonstrable skill and experience in leading the development of the submarine or naval ship production capability workforce.
  • Ability to develop and deploy the overall Operations Group strategy, plans and procedures for the shipyard.
  • Strong ability to work closely with operations group managers in ensuring a safe system of work, experience in root cause analysis of safety incidents, including the development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Experience in the application of project management toolsets such as Earned Value Management to the execution of work.
  • Willing, able and enthusiastic to gain knowledge and experience of contemporary submarine design and build practices and their influence upon developing an in country production capability.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Defence Security Clearance. 

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
