ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic HR Systems Lead to join the ASC team in Osborne SA!

This is not a typical HR systems role. This is a once in a generation opportunity to shape the People & Culture technology ecosystem and work on the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program delivering essential sovereign capability for Australia.

You will work at the intersection of build strategy, People & Culture, workforce planning, nuclear compliance, international operations, and major program delivery.

In this role, you will:

  • Design the People & Culture systems strategy for the JV, from immediate needs through the full program lifecycle.
  • Evaluate what to uplift, what to integrate, and what to build from scratch across systems and future entity requirements.

  • Partner closely with ASC Department Heads to ensure systems support program needs through a merger of capability and solution-based lens

  • Shape future solutions (e.g., HRIS modules, payroll systems, LMS capability, time & attendance, talent platforms, global mobility solutions).

  • Manage ambiguity in a high growth, high uncertainty environment with shifting bid cycles and evolving program requirements.

  • Operate like a strategic founder, with the autonomy to recommend the architecture, tools and roadmap for a completely new HR technology environment.

This role sits within the Build AUKUS division while reporting to P&C, giving you a seat at the table across both functional and program leadership teams.

If you thrive in start-up conditions, love building from the ground up, and have a natural entrepreneurial streak, this is your environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy, design and execution of the P&C systems and technology roadmap for the SSN AUKUS JV.

  • Conduct discovery across Workforce Systems and external partners to define the “new entity” ecosystem.

  • Analyse requirements for nuclear regulated workforce data, compliance, international payroll and future workforce scale.

  • Partner with IT, Security, Supply Chain, Enablement IPTs, and training facilities to scope integrated solutions.

  • Build the business cases to secure funding and drive implementation planning.

  • Anticipate future needs across a multi decade program with increasing bids and evolving scope.

  • Contribute to operational BAU fluctuations, supporting UAT, analytics, reporting and data integrity during quieter cycles.

  • Represent P&C Systems as a trusted advisor, connector and thought leader across the JV.

About you

You bring a blend of strategic HR tech expertise, commercial thinking, and the mindset of someone who enjoys stepping into the unknown and building clarity.

You’ll also have:

  • Significant experience in HR technology strategy, HRIS implementation or systems architecture.

  • Background in mergers & acquisitions, systems consolidation, or scaling systems in rapidly evolving environments.

  • Strong influencing skills and confidence to operate with senior leaders in a complex, multipartner environment.

  • Ability to think long-term while acting quickly on short-term operational needs.

  • Experience working with international payroll or global systems is highly desirable.

  • Technical literacy across IT, platforms, cyber security considerations, and data compliance.

  • An entrepreneurial personality, proactive, curious, resilient, self driven.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.

To check your eligibility please visit the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website.

Benefits

  • Unique and challenging work with a deeper purpose.

  • Flexibility over how, when and where you work for the best work/life balance.

  • Up to 10 days additional leave every year so you can rest and recharge.

  • Generous parental leave so you can give your family the focus it deserves.

  • Subsidised childcare to ease the financial pressure on your family.

  • Health and wellbeing initiatives so you can perform at your best at work.

  • Professional development opportunities to advance your career.

  • A diverse and supportive environment where you can thrive.

  • Discounts and exclusive offers from leading Australian brands to help you save.
