ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s conventionally armed, nuclear‑powered submarines, the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is meaningful and supports Australia’s national security. At ASC, you will find purposeful roles, opportunities to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC offers a deeper purpose you can be proud of.

About the Opportunity

As a Security Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring ASC’s sites operate in full compliance with Commonwealth and corporate security requirements. This role will deliver protective security services across physical, governance, and information security domains.

This role requires a strong understanding of the defence security environment and the ability to provide clear, practical advice across a complex and highly regulated organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver security advice and oversight in line with the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
  • Maintain governance and compliance across physical, personnel, information, and cyber security domains.
  • Identify, assess, and manage security risks, including completion of complex Security Risk Assessments.
  • Manage and respond to security incidents within Defence‑mandated timeframes.
  • Provide expert guidance on classified material handling, access control, and facility accreditation.
  • Liaise with external agencies including AGSVA, Defence Security stakeholders, and other government bodies.
  • Develop and deliver security briefings, awareness sessions, and training activities.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying gaps, implementing controls, and strengthening security culture.

About you

  • Demonstrated experience in a security role within defence or a defence‑adjacent sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of the DSPF and PSPF, and their practical application.
  • Experience across security governance, assurance, and compliance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to identify, manage, and mitigate security risks in complex environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues.
  • Collaborative approach, with the confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Qualification in Security, Risk Management, or a related discipline is desirable.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.

To check your eligibility please visit the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website.

Benefits

  • Unique and challenging work with a deeper purpose.
  • Flexibility over how, when, and where you work for improved work/life balance.
  • Up to 10 days additional leave each year so you can rest and recharge.
  • Generous parental leave so you can give your family the focus it deserves.
  • Subsidised childcare to ease the financial pressure on your family.
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives to support your performance at work.
  • Professional development opportunities to grow your career.
  • A diverse and supportive environment where you can thrive.
  • Discounts and exclusive offers from leading Australian brands.
